Hands-On Guide — Backentec Email Templates Module
Welcome to the Backentec Email Templates module! This guide will take you through your first hands-on experience: configuring the module, activating AI features, and creating your first email template.
Step 1 — Access the Module
Log in to your Magento 2 admin panel. In the left menu, navigate to:
- Backentec → Email Templates — to create and edit templates.
- Backentec → Module Configuration — to manage license and global settings.
In the Module License field, enter the password received by email. This password acts as your unique license key to activate the module's core features.
Step 2 — Generate Gemini API Key
To enable AI-powered styling and content generation, you need a Gemini API key:
- Go to the Google AI Studio (API Keys).
- Click on "Create API key".
- Copy your new key.
- Back in Magento, go to Backentec → Module Configuration → AI Settings.
- Paste the key into the Gemini API Key field and save the configuration.
Step 3 — Creating Your First Template Theme
To create a new theme, navigate to the Email Templates panel, enter a name for your theme, and click save.
Once saved, a pre-defined JSON style guide will be generated with three main sections:
- Tokens: Defines core properties like brand colors and spacing.
- Elements: Maps CSS selectors to your tokens for consistent styling.
- Utilities: Declares reusable utility classes for your templates.
You can manually edit this JSON to expand your design system. The editor will automatically apply these rules as you build your emails.
Step 4 — Using the Template Editor
The editor panel lists your saved templates. You can switch between them using the top navigation bar.
Click Edit Header/Footer to customize the global wrapper that surrounds all your email content.
To speed up your workflow, use the Apply AI Styling button. The AI will analyze your JSON tokens and automatically apply a polished, professional design to your template.
The AI-generated styles serve as a high-quality starting point. You can still manually tweak any element after the AI has finished its work.
Step 5 — Activating Your Theme
To apply your design store-wide, go to Backentec → Module Configuration → General Settings.
Select your new theme from the Active Theme dropdown menu.
After saving, all transactional emails sent by Magento will automatically use the active theme and your custom styles.
